The city of Arusha is a gateway to the northern circuit of safari destinations and to Tanzania’s second highest peak, Mt Meru. To the west lies Serengeti National Park, home to wildlife including lions, rhinoceros, giraffes and leopards as well as the world-famous annual migrations featuring huge herds of wildebeests crossing its plains. Come witness the majesty of the Big Five (Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino) as well as the almost extinct Cheetahs. Famously christened the ‘Geneva of Africa’ this lush, green, picturesque city has a temperate climate owing to its altitude (about 1300m above sea level). Attractions in the town include an excellent Natural History Museum, gemstone dealer-The Tanzanite Experience and the Meserani Snake Park. The renowned warrior ‘Maasai’ tribe offers a cultural emersion for all visitors. Just a short drive away is the Arusha National Park where volcanic crater Mount Meru, the fifth highest mountain in Africa, dominates the horizon. Getting to the top is a challenging hike with the rewards at the top including unmatched views of near neighboring Mt Kilimanjaro.
